#RACINGDRIVERWANTED – 56 JOUEURS ARRIVENT À ABU DHABI POUR LE RACE CAMP EUROPÉEN DE LA GT ACADEMY 2015 NISMO PLAYSTATION

Abu Dhabi – le 5 octobre 2015: Le Race Camp GT Academy NISMO PlayStation® s'ouvre aujourd'hui sur le circuit de Formule 1 de Yas Marina à Abu Dhabi. Ce camp intensif d'une semaine verra 56 joueurs de Gran Turismo® venus de 11 pays se disputer le titre dans la capitale des Émirats Arabes Unis. L'objectif : décrocher une place pour le programme de développement de pilote de Nissan, avec à la clef une chance de devenir pilote de course professionnel, sous le regard attentif du génie de la technique Formule 1 Adrian Newey OBE, nommé juge principal de cette édition.
Le Directeur technique de Red Bull Racing est sans égal en Formule 1. Ses concepts ont remporté 10 titres de constructeur dans trois équipes différentes. L'ingénieur britannique a travaillé aux côtés des plus grands : Nigel Mansell, Mika Häkkinen et Sebastian Vettel. Il a aujourd'hui décidé de porter son attention sur les champions du monde du jeu.
"Je connais bien le projet Gran Turismo, pour lequel j'ai conçu le prototype Red Bull X2010. J'ai même eu l'occasion de travailler avec Jann Mardenborough chez Red Bull," expliquait Newey. "Comme vous le savez, les simulateurs jouent un rôle de plus en plus important dans le monde du sport automobile, il n'est donc pas étonnant de voir Jann et les autres vainqueurs de la GT Academy trouver naturellement leur place chez Nissan. J'ai hâte de m'atteler à la tâche et de dénicher le prochain champion."
Newley sera épaulé par l'instructeur de la GT Academy en titre, le pilote Rob Barff, tout au long des séries et des défis que les candidats devront relever pour tester leurs compétences, ainsi que leurs aptitudes physiques et mentales. Barff est à la tête d'une équipe d'instructeurs chevronnés de la GT Academy et de quelques mentors célèbres : Max Chilton, ancien pilote de F1 (Royaume-Uni), Dani Clos (péninsule ibérique), Olivier Pla (France), JP Kraemer (Allemagne), Tim Coronel (Bénélux), Michela Cerutti (Italie) et Josef Král (Europe centrale de l'est).
La GT Academy se développe chaque année. En 2015, 24 pays ont participé aux compétitions du virtuel au réel. Des champions d'Asie ainsi qu'une compétition internationale ont déjà brillé à Silverstone, Race Camp traditionnel de la GT Academy, mais c'est sous le climat plus amical d'Abu Dhabi que la section européenne pose ses valises cette année. La toile de fond est spectaculaire... le soleil, les vagues, le sable et les impressionnants gratte-ciel de la ville ont ravi les 27 millions de téléspectateurs en 2014.

Nos succès passés, comme celui de Lucas [Ordoñez], Jann [Mardenborough] et Wolfie [Wolfgang Reip], qui vient de remporter le Blancpain Endurance Championship, montrent les enjeux."
Le vainqueur de la GT Academy européenne accèdera au programme de développement de pilote, qui lui ouvrira peut-être les portes d'une carrière professionnelle. Les résultats ont été spectaculaires : Lucas Ordoñez, étudiant en maîtrise en administration des affaires en Espagne, premier vainqueur de la GT Academy en 2008, court aujourd'hui pour Nissan en Super GT500 au Japon, avec deux podiums aux 24h du Mans à son actif. Jann Mardenborough, vainqueur britannique de 2011, court dans les séries principales de GP3 F1 et en tout juste trois ans, le belge Wolfgang Reip est passé de joueur à champion des Blancpain Endurance Series au volant d'une Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3.

About GT Academy 2015
GT Academy is a collaboration between PlayStation® and Nissan that uses the virtual world of the Gran Turismo®6 game to unearth real-world racing talent. Now in its seventh year, GT Academy includes separate competitions for Europe (France, Italy, Germany, UK, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Poland , Hungary, Czech Republic), Asia (Japan, India, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia) and ‘International’ (USA, Australia, Mexico, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Turkey).
The GT Academy qualification round will be part of a free Gran Turismo®6 update on PlayStation®3 (terms and conditions apply). The fastest gamers in each participating territory will qualify for their place at their territory’s Race Camp. A number of competitors will also gain access via a series of Live Gran Turismo® events organised locally.
At Race Camp competitors are put through their paces on track and in a series of challenges in Nissan sports cars under the watchful eyes of high profile judges and mentors. One winner from each competition will be invited to take part in the intensive Driver Development Programme. They could qualify for an international race license and race for Nissan in 2016, before potentially joining Nissan’s elite NISMO Athlete group of racers.
Previous winners of GT Academy are now regular racing drivers. In 2015, Jann Mardenborough (UK, winner in 2011) and Lucas Ordoñez (Spain, winner in 2008) represented Nissan in its LMP1 factory assault on the Le Mans 24 Hours. Jann also races single-seaters in GP3, a feeder series to Formula One, while Lucas is racing in the Super GT500 Championship in Japan. GT Academy winners are also present in the World Endurance Championship and Blancpain Endurance Series.
Since its inception, GT Academy has attracted well over 5 million entrants worldwide. GT Academy winners have recorded two Le Mans 24 Hour podiums as well as 90 further podiums in international racing and over 22 race wins.
